Afremov achieves the Impasto technique by using a palette knife instead of brushes to achieve vibrant and colourful visual effects. Pressing the blade down at different angles allowed him to apply strokes of different sizes and shapes, from large chunky splashes to the finest lines drawn with the very tip of the knife.
